MAPAS Triple Threat Program
The MAPAS Triple Threat Program is the only one of it’s kind in the
Peel Region. Four hour sessions will take place on a weekly basis
and will be divided as follows: one hour dance class, one hour
acting class, two hours of vocal performance. This program will
enable students interested in musical theatre and/or live
performance to develop and hone their skills in all three areas.
Students will be expected to complete a required listening and
watching list, consisting of 10 CDs and 10 DVDs, to ensure exposure
to some of the best musicals and performers in history; they will
also be expected to maintain and hand in journals, detailing their
reflections on their own progress and what they have learned. Each
student will also be expected to attend one live performance on
their own time, and write a review of the show and their experience.
Students that participate in this program will compete in the
Kiwanis and Peel Festivals, perform at all three studio recitals,
both studio recitals, as well as at other events throughout the
year. Special guest artists will be invited to watch the students
perform and share their own expertise. MAPAS and its staff have been
recognized as the best in training and preparing young people for
live performance and we are excited to begin this new program.
Ultra Violet
Last September, we introduced MAPAS' first jazz performance
ensemble; a small group of dynamite singers, dedicated to creating a
smooth, tight blend of sound and bringing the classics of the jazz
standard catalogue to life. Each member is a fiercely talented
singer who works well on their own, as well as in a group; they are
ready for musical challenges and open to trying any and all new
material. Ultra Violet will perform at all three studio recitals, as
well as at various events throughout the year. They will represent
the studio at various vocal festivals in order to learn and showcase
their 'ultra violet' sound. Members will rehearse on Wednesday
evenings, 6pm to 7:30pm; participation is by invitation only.
MAPAS At Disney 2011
Applications to participate in group that will perform in Disney
World, Orlando, Florida will be available in September. Students
wishing to participate must be enrolled in either the Triple Threat
Program or Private Lessons. Students accepted into this group will
be financially responsible for a participation fee, air fare,
accommodation, food, park passes and costume requirements. Parents
will be expected to help out with fundraising that will offset
everyone’s cost; 2009 fundraising efforts covered all of the
students’ accommodations and a portion of their Disney Park Passes.
Private Lessons – Singing, Acting, Piano, Theory/Ear Training
The MAPAS private lesson curriculum is second to none in the Peel
Region; lessons incorporate Jazz Standards, Pop, Classical and
Musical Theatre repertoire. All music is specifically chosen for
each individual student in order to compliment their strengths and
offer new challenges. Students are invited to perform at A Very
Purple Christmas, Bringin' Da Purple and The Sound of Purple studio
recitals, as well as at other events throughout the studio year.
Select students are also invited to take part in our annual studio
recording, Big Purple Tunes at a professional recording studio.
Theory is offered as a valuable component and RCM exam preparation
is available. Lessons also involve historical content, as
exploration of the history of various songs, composers and legendary
performers is completed. Students who prove their interest and work
ethic will also be considered for competition participation, special
performances outside of the studio calendar and even their own solo
concert. The opportunity to record your own solo CD is also
available.
Private Students from Marion's Studio have won countless awards and
recognitions both here and in the United States; their high caliber
of performance is second to none. Private lessons are strongly
recommended to anyone seriously interested in developing their
talent; the one-on-one attention and encouragement produces the most
astounding results.
