Vocal Performance
Ages 10+ Wednesdays 8pm to 9pm
What is the secret behind the world’s most successful singers? Vocal Performance – the way they stand, move, use their hands, communicate text, express emotion - all of these factors and more contribute to successful and consistent vocal performance. Taught by Marion Abbott, this class will help young singers become stronger performers by teaching them to consider text analysis, emotional layering, physicality and other important techniques. A safe environment will ensure that every student will achieve their best in a master class setting; jazz standards, pop and musical theatre repertoire will be covered. Guest artists will be invited to participate. This class is offered at a reduced rate for students currently taking private vocal lessons at MAPAS and is strongly recommended as a secondary component to these lessons.

Technical
Production Workshops
Ages 10+ - see Studio Calender for Workshop Dates
The Technical Production training offered at MAPAS is the only one of its kind in the Peel Region. The first Fall Tech Workshop will focus on lighting and sound; technical basics, design elements and hands on experiences. The second Fall Tech Workshop will be about stage management – the pivotal backstage role that co-ordinates everything from rehearsal schedules and costume fittings, to exactly when the curtain opens.
MAPAS’s first Winter Tech Workshop will focus on set and props design and construction and the Second Winter Tech Workshop teaches about costume design and creation; students will learn about the design process and get hands on experience in building all three. Successful completion of these workshops enable students to request placement on the studio’s Tech Teams for various productions and performances throughout the year, giving them a chance to use their training and get paid doing it! All students are encouraged to consider expanding their knowledge of the performance process by taking one or more of these courses.

Ear Training And Theory
Ages 10+, Wednesdays 6:30pm - 8pm
This class has been created due to the growth and development of the musicianship of many MAPAS students; the curriculum will cover Sight Singing, Intervals, and Rhythm. A prescribed theory course will be decided upon for each student before classes begin (i.e. completion of certain books or registration and preparation for an RCM Rudiments exam) and weekly tutoring will ensure successful completion of these courses. This class is strongly recommended for students privately studying vocal and/or piano, students involved in High School Vocal or Instrumental programs and those wishing to take RCM Exams. It is an absolute must for those intending to pursue any kind of music or performance post-secondary education, students currently preparing for RCM Exams and/or those who wish to be considered for Rep Troupe in the future.
