February 20th, 1973: A Little Night Music

A Little Night Music opened on Broadway on February 25th, 1973.

Five Facts: 

1. Music and Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, Book by Hugh Wheeler

2. Glynis Johns won The Tony Award for Best Actress - you may recognize her from the film Mary Poppins. 

3. There was a film, directed by Harold Prince, but it didn't do too well *wince* 😑

4. The entire score is written in waltz metre - all of the music sounds like 1 2 3, 1 2 3 (even though the time signatures vary from 3/4 to 6/8 to 9/8 etc.)

5. The song Send In The Clowns became a huge pop success long after the show opened and closed, thanks to recordings by Judy Collins and Frank Sinatra.
