June 12th: Happy Birthday Richard Sherman! 🎁
Born on this day in 1928, Richard and his brother Robert, worked directly for Walt Disney, writing the music and lyrics for Mary Poppins, Winnie The Pooh, Carousel Of Progress, It's A Small World, Bedknobs and Broomsticks ... the list is endless. Here five wonderful songs you should explore: *as always, click on the title for an accompaniment track and sheet music link*
Feed the Birds - Mary Poppins: this was Walt Disney's song. Richard Sherman played it for Walt on the piano in his office every Friday afternoon. After Walt's death, Richard continued this tradition in the empty office.
Enjoy It - In Search Of The Castaways: this charming little piece of optimism was introduced by the legendary Maurice Chevalier.
It's A Small World - It's A Small World Attraction: love it or loathe it, you have to admit the words are powerful and the tune unforgettable.
Little Black Rain Cloud - The Many Adventures Of Winnie The Pooh: probably my favourite of the songs written for Winnie The Pooh.
Christopher Robin - Christopher Robin: Richard wrote this piece on his own (Robert died in 2012) in 2018. It's heartbreaking and lovely.
